ASHP and eBroselow Form Partnership to Advance Medication Administration Safety
ASHP® (American Society of Health-System Pharmacists®), a provider of drug information databases, and eBroselow, a provider of dosing information, entered a partnership that they say will take safety in the administration of medication to the next level.
The collaboration integrates ASHP’s comprehensive AHFS DI® Essentials™ database into eBroselow’s SafeDose® application, which simplifies medication administration at the point of care. The Essentials database builds on the foundation of the AHFS Drug Information® (AHFS DI®) database, focusing on the essential evidence-based information and providing what is most needed by pharmacists, nurses, physicians, and other health professionals when delivering care.
“The SafeDose product is a major step forward in applying new technology at the bedside to increase drug safety, both in calculating dosages and determining rates of administration,” said Gerald McEvoy, Assistant Vice President for Drug Information at ASHP. “Combining SafeDose with the longstanding recognition and authority of the AHFS drug information databases provides a powerful new tool unmatched in the industry.”
SafeDose eliminates the risk of human error in manual math calculations, quickly determining proper drug doses in acute settings. Healthcare personnel scan the bar code on the medication bottle, or use the app to search for any medication, enter the weight or Broselow color, and then SafeDose quickly returns the proper administration dose.
